Story
For me, this trip is very personal.
When I was eight years old, I was severely burnt by a flaming pot of oil that my Nan was boiling. I received third degree burns on my thighs; was hospitalised for three months; went through a number of skin graft surgeries and had to learn to walk again after being wheel chair bound.
For forty years now, I have been harbouring this secret and still many of my close friends don't know of my story or extensive scarring.
After following Turia Pitts story and how she not only inspires so many but uses her notoriety to help others, I've decided it's time for me to have closure on this part of my life.
By joining Turia’s Inca Trail Challenge we will help Interplast repair bodies and rebuild lives throughout the Asia Pacific region. For decades Interplast's teams of volunteer plastic and reconstructive surgeons, burns specialists, anaesthetists and nurses have provided free surgical treatment to patients who cannot access such services and have facilitated safe, healthier and more sustainable healthcare initiatives.
This challenge allows me to own my scars and story; spend a few days with the amazing Turia while raising money for a charity which I connect with.
