Turia's Inca Trail Challenge

Story

Hi there,

In June 2014, I took part in Turia’s Great Wall of China Challenge which raised more than $180,000 for Interplast Australia and New Zealand. It was an incredible team effort and a challenge never to be forgotten. I grew as an individual and it has inspired me to take on another challenge; Turia’s Inca Trail Challenge. Yes that’s right!!! In July 2015, I will be going to Peru with Turia Pitt to tackle the Inca Trail all in the name of charity!

By joining Turia’s Inca Trail Challenge I will help Interplast repair bodies and rebuild lives throughout the Asia Pacific region. For decades, Interplast has worked on the ground in some of the world’s poorest countries to provide free surgical treatment and facilitate safe, healthier and more sustainable healthcare initiatives.

With our support, Interplast's teams of volunteer plastic and reconstructive surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses and allied health professionals can continue to provide free surgical treatment to patients living with treatable disabilities such as cleft lip and palate, burn scars and severe hand injuries. The funds I raise as part of this incredible adventure will also enable Interplast to train the next generation of surgical leaders in the countries in which they work. Through education, training and mentoring programs we empower local medical personnel to perform life-saving procedures independently.

I am fortunate to share a friendship with Turia Pitt. She is one of the most courageous, inspiring, funny and intriguing people I know and her outlook on life is phenomenal. Some of you may recall in September 2011 Turia was participating in an ultra-marathon in the remote Kimberly region of Western Australia when she was tragically caught in the path of a fire. As a result she suffered horrific burns to 65% of her body and spent the following 6 months in hospital receiving around the clock care for her injuries. Quite simply if it wasn’t for the outstanding medical resources made available to her she simply may not have survived. Some of the surgeons that worked so hard to save Turia’s life also donate their time and skills to this charity (Interplast).

For me to go to Peru I would like to raise in excess of $3,500 and you can help by making a contribution through this secure online donation link.  Whilst in Peru I will be given the opportunity to spend some time at Chicuchas Wasi Alternative School for Girls that provides free education for local girls from Indigenous families. I cannot wait to go and experience what Peru has to offer so please help me in my endeavours to make a difference in the lives of those who are less fortunate than us. All donations over $2 are tax deductible and a receipt is emailed to you.

(Please note that all monies raised through this page go directly towards Interplast Australia. Like China, I am funding my own trip to Peru and subsequent accommodation, meals etc.)

To get the ball rolling, I am making my own contribution towards this incredible Charity. Please jump on board and help me get over the line.

Thanks so much for your support!
